JOB TITLE: Evening Part-Time Print Production Assistant

DEPARTMENT: Digital Imaging Center, Print Studio

REPORTS TO: Head Manager

SCHEDULE: Part-time position. Variable Evening Schedule: Monday Wednesday and Thursday, 4 pm-10 pm; and Weekends, either 10 am-4 pm or 3:30 pm-9:30 pm

SALARY: $21.00 per hour

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Head Manager, the Print Production Assistant will work in a fast-paced environment requiring computer programs and a high level of customer interface and service.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with the Riso workshops.
  • Deliver all jobs on time and expedite any operations that may cause delays or change schedules to address unforeseen conditions. Maintain contact with students and faculty when critical issues arise or if production schedules are at risk.
  • Maintain an inventory of supplies and parts needed for production.
  • Complete all required paperwork, print request forms, documents, etc., to keep job ticket information complete, accurate, and current.
  • Participate in training activities or other special assignments as requested.
  • Build collaborative relationships with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Communicate to print studio supervisors daily.
  • Perform other job-related tasks and duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
  • 3 years of experience working in a print production Macintosh environment.
  • 3 years of computer programs and a high level of customer interface and service experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • An art school background is recommended.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced production environment using Apple programs.
  • Intermediate experience using Adobe Master Suite.
  • Experience in desktop publishing, design layout, and form creation.
  • Experience with 3D printing is preferred.
  • Experience working with Riso technology is preferred.
  • Experience working with different paper types and weights (cover stock, vellum, etc.).
  • Experience working with OSX and IOS devices.
  • Experience calibrating printers in lab settings.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of internal workings of a printing facility and pressroom, including pre-press work with graphic arts, direct-to-plate output and operation of a RIP Station, paper cutting, Epson plotters, measurements, and color systems.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of various papers and printing inks.
  • Ability to be a team player who can also work independently.
  • Ability to develop and maintain knowledge in new specialized techniques.
  • Skill in operating a personal computer and related equipment.
  • Skill in planning and organizing.
  • Skill in effective verbal and written communication.
  • Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
  • Skill in planning and organizing, attention to detail, and willingness to be creative.
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities.
  • Ability to resolve problems or situations requiring the exercise of sound judgment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other employees and the public

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OR WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Part-Time position. Variable evening schedule/hours:
    • Monday and Wednesday, 4 pm-10 pm; and
    • Weekends either 10 am-4 pm or 3:30 pm-9:30 pm
  • Variable work schedule outside designated evening hours as needed for events and departmental needs; and may be required to work additional hours outside of the regular work schedule.
  • Work hours may include after-hours, holidays, and weekend work
  • Tasks may involve bending, lifting, walking, carrying, or using a force equal to lifting thirty-five (35) pounds.

- Might occasionally work with student workers to support with projects as needed
